Beetles is everywhere on Amazon, and for good reason—it's affordable and accessible. But is it actually good? I put their 6-in-1 Builder Gel through a full 3-week wear test to find out.

Quick Verdict

Rating: 4.2/5

Beetles Builder Gel is an excellent choice for beginners and budget-conscious nail enthusiasts. It's not salon-grade, but for the price, it delivers impressive results.

Best for: Beginners, home users, those on a budget

Not ideal for: Professional salon use, very long extensions

What's in the Box

The Beetles 6-in-1 Builder Gel kit includes:

  • 15ml bottle of builder gel (brush in bottle)
  • Multiple shade options available
  • Self-leveling formula

At around $10-12 per bottle, it's one of the most affordable options on the market.

Application Experience

Pros:

  • Easy to work with - The self-leveling formula is forgiving for beginners
  • Good consistency - Not too thick, not too runny
  • Brush quality - The included brush works well
  • Cures properly - No issues with my 48W lamp

Cons:

  • Limited building - Can't create very thick apex
  • Shrinkage - Slight shrinkage during curing
  • Smell - Noticeable chemical smell (normal but not pleasant)

Wear Test Results

I applied the gel on all 10 nails and went about my normal routine:

  • Daily dishwashing (with gloves)
  • Typing on keyboard
  • Regular activities

Week 1:

  • Zero lifting or chips
  • Color staying vibrant
  • Surface smooth

Week 2:

  • Minor tip wear on dominant hand
  • No lifting at cuticles
  • Still looks good

Week 3:

  • Some visible growth at cuticle
  • Two nails showing minor chips
  • Overall still presentable

Final wear time: 18 days before needing a fill

Who Should Buy This?

Yes, buy if:

  • You're new to builder gel
  • You want to practice without spending much
  • You do your own nails at home
  • You need basic strengthening/overlay

Maybe skip if:

  • You need to create long extensions
  • You're doing nails professionally
  • You have HEMA sensitivity (not HEMA-free)

Tips for Best Results

  1. Apply thin layers - Don't try to build too much at once
  2. Let it self-level - Give the gel 10-15 seconds before curing
  3. Use proper prep - Good prep matters more than the product
  4. Cap the edges - Especially important with this formula

Final Thoughts

Beetles Builder Gel proves you don't need to spend a fortune to get decent results. Is it as good as professional brands like The GelBottle? No. But at 1/4 the price, it's a fantastic starting point.

For beginners learning technique or anyone doing at-home nails on a budget, I genuinely recommend giving Beetles a try. Just manage your expectations—it's great for what it is.
